Frank Merz had lived and worked in the city of Jamestown for many years. By the time he turned 30 he became a well known banker and somewhat of a wealthy man. When he turned 35 he joined a new fraternity that was growing strength across America, The Moose Club.
Having a lot of pull in the area, the leaders of the Moose were eager to have him join. After a year of membership the council of elders inducted Mr. Merz into the secrete fraternity of the Moose. He was amazed at the story they told him of a great diamond that exists and the Great Yellow Moose. Merz was skeptical at first but after being allowed to examine the ancient artifacts and tablet scrolls, be became obsessed and wanted to discover the ancient civilization.
Frank Merz and other Moose members spent years exploring the area and searching for the lost ruins. They had a general idea of where the ruins would be, but with development in the area they had to act fast. By his 40th birthday Frank Merz had ambition and hope he would find the ruins someday.
On a beautiful spring day in 1910 Merz had been driving to Mayville for another Moose Club meeting. On his way, just outside of Mayville, he noticed a weird piling of rocks off in the distance. He pulled off to the side of the road and started to walk towards the strange structure. It was a small, almost square structure overgrown with trees and shrubs. Looking closer he noticed a small carving in one of the stones, masculin. Stepping closer to examine the stones, he noticed a small insignia that he had seen before. Knowing that he made the discovery of the entrance to the ruins; he wasted no time and ran back to his automobile for his tools.
Being quick, as not to be seen, he began to find the passage to the cavern below. After climbing down a small tunnel, he found himself in a large cavern with a doorway in the other side. The anticipation and excitement grew inside of him as he passed through the doorway and walked down a large hall towards and even larger cavern. Entering the cavern he was amazed to see what stood at the center of the room; Frank Merz was over whelmed in finding what he had spent the better part of his life looking for.
The ruin temple stood there as if waiting for him to find it. He ran towards the stairs of the temple that led to the top. As he climbed he saw a light coming from the temple room. Entering the room he noticed it was exactly how La Salle described it. The life-like statues stood silently starring at the large clear diamond resting on the center pedestal. He walked forwards, hoping he would be the man that the tablet scrolls said would posses the power, “the worthy man”.
Touching the diamond, his body froze and his mind raced. The room exploded with light and the statues broke free of their stone prisons and blockaded the entrances; Frank Merz stood in horror, frozen in place. A low rumble began to sound as a voice started to speak and a figured appeared.
“I have been expecting you, but to your disappointment you are not the worthy man I have been waiting for; the man who will restore honor and peace to the Moosuenucoo. No you have been chosen for a different task, protecting the temple and the land on which the ruins are hidden. Go now and complete the task I have laid out for you.”
As Frank Merz left the caverns he knew what he had to do. He never spoke of the event that happened in the caverns or the fact that he found the ruins. Over the next few years he kept a close watch on the area over the ruins. When the land was up for auction he jumped on the offer and purchased the land, but to cover up the transaction he donated the land to the Boy Scouts. He set fourth the task of protecting the secrete, which is passed through the secret fraternity and renamed it the Fraternity of the Cheese Moose, after the yellow moose that spoke to him in the cavern. To this day the secrete fraternity honors Frank Merz’s wishes and keeps a watchful eye out for the one who will come and restore honor and peace to the lost souls of the Moosuenucoo tribe.
